When we stop to think about what our great-great-great-grandfather achieved here and that now it’s our turn—it’s no big deal in some ways, but man, it’s a fine feeling!

From Generation to Generation.

„Important decisions are made together—always with the goal of conjuring maximum joy and radiance in the glass, with the origin of the wines itself helping define the course.“

Father and son—both having more or less grown up between the vines and wine barrels—work here side by side.

After studying at the University of Geisenheim, Weingut Chat Sauvage in Johannisberg and Domaine Méo-Camuzet in Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, it is now Florian R. Geil’s turn at the helm in Bermersheim. A passion for wine is simply in the genes for Rudolf and Florian. In many ways, they are quite different in their character, yet they share an undeniable common denominator—and that makes all the difference.

A Shared Path.

Even if Rudolf and Florian set the tone in vineyard and cellar—they’re never alone in their work. Sarah, Florian’s wife, and Birgit, wife to Rudolf and mother to Florian, are always on hand with help and advice—whether the task is organization, marketing, tastings or anything else. And sometimes they even have the clearest eyes on decisions in the vineyard and cellar.

„Following your calling—side by side and with complete trust in one another—is one of the most amazing things you’ll ever experience.“

„We are responsible not only for the things we do, but also for the things we don’t.“

Molière

In Harmony with Nature

„Humans will always be subject to nature, but never the other way around. That’s why we perpetually look to work with nature. When we plant a new vineyard, we are making a decision for the coming decades—perhaps even for an entire generation.“

Few industries are as strongly dependent on nature as winegrowing—on the whims of the weather, the climate in general, and the geological conditions inherent to a vineyard. Being a winegrower demands a solid dose of humility and awareness of natural processes.

This is certainty the bedrock of our work and our lives. Vintage for vintage, we seek to draw out the distinct wine personality from our different vineyards—and along the way to not only retain, but enhance the contribution each site makes to Rheinhessen’s ecosystem.

„And always our thoughts bring us back to the fact that we are only borrowing this piece of land from our ancestors, and that it’s our responsibility to pass it on to the next generation in good condition.“
